Scotland – Day 17 (Oban)

Day 17 – Tuesday October 3, 2017

Another windy and rainy night at the cottage. I awoke several times during the night and was surprised a few times when I could actually see the moon and stars.

Jerry and I decide on doing some more hiking today. We start off pretty good but then decide to try to scale up the hill or mountain beside the cottage. Here they call them Munros. With all the rain there is standing water everywhere and mud where the sheep have traveled.

We quickly find out after going up and doing some hand over hand climbing that we need to find another way down, as we don’t want to climb down what we just climbed up. That may have been a bad decision as we soon find ourselves climbing a few more munroes without a route down.

The rain and wind are ferocious at the summits but the views are amazing.

We continue to search for a route down and literally step into a solution. We find some cow shit and breathe a little easier. No, not because we like the smell of cowshit, but we figure if a cow made it up here and got down that there must be an easier route down. After following and stepping in an occasional pile we find a much easier route down. Piece of cake – I mean “pie” .

After recovering from our little adventure, we all head out to Glencoe for some sightseeing and lunch. On our way back we stop at the local pub (The Barn) for a pint and an early dinner.

We settle into the cottage with a fire and a movie for the evening. The movie is “Ring of Bright Water” which was filmed here at the cottage. It’s a story of an Englishman that adopts an otter named Mij and moves to the Scottish countryside. The cottage we are staying in was where the bulk of the story takes place.

I enjoyed the movie about the cottage and the scenery of the surrounding areas but, I will say along with never watching dog movies I must now include otter movies on my movie blacklist.
