SCOTLAND – DAY 20 (EDINBURGH)

SCOTLAND – DAY 20 (EDINBURGH)

Day 20 – Friday, October 6, 2017

Today we leave Tigh Beg Croft 🙁 and head to Edinburgh and the last day of our Scotland journey.  We arrive in Edinburgh about 11 Am and the girls give us the tour of this amazing city. Very busy and crowded but rich in history and culture, it’s quite a contrast to the serenity and solitude of Tigh Beg Croft.

We turn in the rental car after having driven over 1000 miles in this beautiful country.  I never realized just how beautiful Scotland is and would have never gotten to experience this if it wasn’t for Sharon & Kathi.

Day 19 – Thursday, October 5, 2017

Today we headed to Oban again for some sightseeing and shopping. I think the main reason we headed back was to visit the Waterfront Fishouse Restaurant again.  Best damn Mussels I’ve ever had and Jerry and Sharon say the Fish & Chips was the best they have ever had.

After lunch we head back and decide to stop by some old church ruins not to far from the cottage. The Church at Kilbride is an interesting place and the only thing that might be more interesting than the church and cemetery is the owner and caretaker Liam Griffin.

Scotland – Day 18 (Oban)

Day 18 – Wednesday October 4, 2017

Jerry and I went for another hike this morning, this time along the coast line and a smaller Munro to the left of the cottage. The ladies just informed me that you don’t “hike” a Munro but you “bag” it.

Ok then we bagged another Munro today. ?

After a delicious lunch of egg salad and vegetable soup we all took a little hike down to the water. It had turned a tad cooler and the rain started up but it was still a nice walk.

Scotland – Day 17 (Oban)

Day 17 – Tuesday October 3, 2017

Another windy and rainy night at the cottage. I awoke several times during the night and was surprised a few times when I could actually see the moon and stars.

Jerry and I decide on doing some more hiking today. We start off pretty good but then decide to try to scale up the hill or mountain beside the cottage. Here they call them Munros. With all the rain there is standing water everywhere and mud where the sheep have traveled.

We quickly find out after going up and doing some hand over hand climbing that we need to find another way down, as we don’t want to climb down what we just climbed up. That may have been a bad decision as we soon find ourselves climbing a few more munroes without a route down.

The rain and wind are ferocious at the summits but the views are amazing.

We continue to search for a route down and literally step into a solution. We find some cow shit and breathe a little easier. No, not because we like the smell of cowshit, but we figure if a cow made it up here and got down that there must be an easier route down. After following and stepping in an occasional pile we find a much easier route down. Piece of cake – I mean “pie” .

After recovering from our little adventure, we all head out to Glencoe for some sightseeing and lunch. On our way back we stop at the local pub (The Barn) for a pint and an early dinner.

We settle into the cottage with a fire and a movie for the evening. The movie is “Ring of Bright Water” which was filmed here at the cottage. It’s a story of an Englishman that adopts an otter named Mij and moves to the Scottish countryside. The cottage we are staying in was where the bulk of the story takes place.

I enjoyed the movie about the cottage and the scenery of the surrounding areas but, I will say along with never watching dog movies I must now include otter movies on my movie blacklist.

Scotland – Day 16 (Oban)

Day 16 –  Monday, October 2, 2017

Our 1st full day at the Tigh Beg Croft cottage. Jerry and I spent the early part of the day hiking along the coastline. Beautiful but very windy and wet. The rocks were especially slick coated with moss and a kelplike material.

We all head back out to Oban for supplies we either forgot yesterday or discovered new iten we want.

Not near as wet or windy as last nite but still pretty blustery.
