Saturday, March 10th, Sharon, Steve, Beck, Lila, Gemma & I head out for Gatlinburg to spend the night. We arrive early afternoon and head out to the NOC and dinner at one of my favorite establishments (Smoky Mountain Brewery). After a filling dinner and some refreshments Sharon, Gemma, & I head back to the Hotel while Steve and the kiddos do a little exploring.
Next morning we plan on eating a nice Breakfast and then the crew will leave me to start my adventure. While eating Breakfast Jim calls and we see the weather isn’t improving and actually getting much worse and the roads into the Park are closed. Cold, Snow, & Ice projected on the Trail for the next few days so time to rethink our plans. After some discussion we decide to head back to Louisville and hope the weather breaks mid week to come back and do an “Abbreviated” hike. Jim (Trailblazer Jim) decides the same and we agree to come back on Wednesday and try again.
Wednesday comes and Jim & I drive back to Motel 6 in Gatlinburg. After checking into the motel we proceed back to my favorite place again for some refreshments and talk about our trip and prepare for an early morning shuttle ride to Cades Cove to start the hike.
