Hike @ Tioga Falls & Fort Duffield (11/25/19)
Tony and I started this hiking season with what was supposed to be a couple of short hikes at West Point KY. Turns out by days end we did about 7 1/2 miles in total, not bad for 1st time out this season.
1st up was a hike at Tioga Falls. The weather for the day was fabulous for a late November day. Temps started out in the 40s and by days end were in the low 60s with not a cloud in the sky. An absolutely perfect day for a hike! After hiking to the falls and back to the trailhead there was another trail called Bridges to the Past that we took that went past several old bridges and a cave.
We then drove the 3 or 4 miles to Fort Duffield – Fort Duffield is an American Civil War fort located outside West Point, Kentucky. It saw use in 1862, and was abandoned when it appeared that the War would never come near the fort. Ironically, John Hunt Morgan would in 1863 lead his Raiders right past the fort and could have been stopped had the fort not been abandoned.
Pretty cool place with fantastic views of the Ohio river and West Point.
